Sports Premium

The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils but they are free to choose the best way of using the money.

For example, schools can use their funding to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers
  • hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • provide existing staff with teaching resources to help them teach PE and sport
  • support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubs
  • run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools.

How We Spend Our PE and Sport Premium

At Long Itchington C.E. Primary School, our PE and Sport Premium was £8735 last year.

We used the majority of this grant to offset some of our expenditure on specialist sports coaches.  We work closely with Onside Coaching who provide specialist sports teaching for each class for one hour a week.  We also offer dance and gymnastics with a qualified teacher for children in Year 1 and Year 2.

We have also used some of the grant to purchase new P.E. equipment and to send teachers on training courses to ensure that our skills and knowledge for teaching P.E. are up to date.

At Long Itchington C.E. Primary School, we are committed to providing a range of experiences for our children to encourage them to take part in physical activity.  These opportunities include:

  • after school sports activities provided by Onside Coaching
  • gymnastics provided by LoveBallet
  • dance provided by Secret Garden
  • netball club
  • football club
  • participation in competitions against local schools eg netball, football, swimming, athletics, tennis

As a result of this funding we achieved the Silver School Games Mark award for 'commitment, engagement and delivery of competitive school sport' in 2015/2016.
